Further development on the animal relating theme…. Trying to mess about a bit with pens, colour and composition. Quite like the blue Mr Polly face coming from the bird (although it probably looks too whimsical and spiritual for a H.G Wells novel?!) and I’m not so keen on the fox one. Think they need to all be more… striking. And probably need to try something different. Oh well.. 13 more lovely blog posts to go to get it right!

Trying another idea, relating the books to key animals. I’ve given Ann Veronica a fox because she’s intelligent and longs for independ-ance, ‘ Tono Bungay’ has snakes because the characters aim to go up in society but find that press and too much money can be poisonous. I’ve related ‘The History of Mr Polly’ to a bird, as the character begins a new life literally out of the ashes of his old one, phoenix-like. Need to do loads more development still but first sketchy ideas…………

First look into common themes that run throughout all the books. I thought because the books are all about people and social situations that hands would be a good way of expressing ideas. However these images aren’t very inspiring…
Another idea about all three books is that the characters lives fall apart and then change. So started thinking a little bit about disintegration
